National Institute of Construction Technology and Management, Uromi
At a reception party organized to mark the 80th birth anniversary of Chief Anthony Akhakon Anenih the Iyasele of Esanland, in December 2013, the Federal Government announced the establishment of the Institute to provide Nigerian Youths with an opportunity for skills acquisition vocational education and training in the construction industry, which is one of the biggest employer of labour in the country. The Vice-President Alhaji Namadi Sambo who made the announcement indicated that
Apart from helping to meet the Manpower needs of the country in the construction sector, the Institute will also help to deal with unemployment problems, provide access to higher education for the teeming Nigerian Youths and to meet their demands not only in the area of self-reliance but also to empower them become employers of labour.
Following the provisional approval, the Federal Government in March, 2014 set up an implementation committee to work out the modalities and requirements necessary for the take-off of the Institute.
The Committee identified an appropriate area of land, measuring 1.7km by 1.7km which was secured with the help of the Onojie of Uromi, HRH Anslem Eidenojie as the permanent site of the Institute. Chief Tony Anenih graciously donated his massive Nova Hotels with all the facilities at Uromi freely at no cost to the Federal Government and the Institute for the effective taking off of the Institute.
