27th February, 2024

The National Institute of Construction Technology and Management organised a Sensitisation programme for Master Craftsmen, Artisans, Staff, and Students on the need to be certified with National Skill Qualification (NSQ).

The programme which was organised by the Directorate of Entrepreneurship Studies and Skills Development, headed by Dr. Uche Okoye, had in attendance the Management of the Polytechnic, ably led by the Rector, Dr. O.B. Agbadua who was represented by the Deputy Rector, Dr. S.E. Aigbomian, the Registrar Mrs Dayo Akinbowale, Staff, Students, Artisans and Master Craftsmen including Automobile Mechanics, electricians, Panel beaters. Welders, Hair Dressers, Tailors etc.

The Resource person Mr. Mohammed Mulktaru, the Director of Skill Acquisition, Auchi Polytechnic emphasised that Nigeria’s skilled workers are not certified making them to be underpaid both within and outside the country.

He therefore encouraged all Artisans, Craftmen, Staff and Students alike to utilise the opportunity to embrace the government initiative and get certified in this regard in order to become trainers as skill pays more than degrees.

On his part, the Deputy Rector, Dr. S.E. Aigbomian, who represented the Rector Dr. O.B. Agbadua, emphasised the usefulness of skills as against degrees in todays world.

Students were also educated on the need to acquiring a skill during their course of study to enable them graduate with two certificates at the end of their programmes in line with NBTE directives.

The highlight of the occasion was the appreciation the Polytechnic received from the Artisans and Craftmen for the opportunity to be trained.
